LA MODE FRANÇAISE FAIT LA MODE

Fashion and France go hand in hand. This year, a staple piece of french fashion has influenced the trend world. What once was a daring statement for women to wear, is now being worn by bloggers, influencers and teenagers- i love it.
The piece in question? The suit. Currently, the popular pattern of suit is a beautiful black, grey and white check. This look is being sold in hundreds of stores, from Chanel, to Topshop, and even debuting in Primark.

ROUJE
The brand: Rouje, opened in 2016 as an online retailer. Owned by the Parisenne It-Girl Jeanne Damas, a model with impeccable style and a gorgeous smile. Personally, I love this store because it can provide you with basics and timeless staple pieces and also give you inspiration for your wardrobe. In each piece you see the effortless elegance of french style, whether that be in the dresses, shoes or bags. I stumbled across this brand via Instagram about 6 months ago, and even then the suit was being sold. Furthermore, Rouje hasn't bought into the suit trend, but was selling it by chance months ago.

HISTORY
Facts and figures from: allure,com
In 666 the first suit was made. Let's ignore the relation to the devils number, although people in suits have caused havoc, we are focusing on fashion for now. Nonetheless, we have come along way since then. In 1914, Coco Chanel designed the first suit for women and wore it with pride despite the controversy. Later on in 1966, Yves Saint Laurent designed a woman's tuxedo named Le Smoking, thus the Smoking Jacket was born.
I feel it is safe to say that these two french designers birthed the woman's suit into the fashion world.

TREND TIMELINE
Trends have a short lifetime. Sad as this is, we all know it's true. Once a trend reaches its' peak, there is a quick decline and its' gone (until it revives itself years later). Fascinatingly, this trend is timeless. Next year it may not be popular, but it will be stylish. I would never stop myself from wearing a piece of clothing I just because its' "not trendy" anymore. Buying a checkered suit is an investment!

DO YOU WANT ONE?
As Rouje by Jeanne Damas is one of my favourite online retailers, I would recommend her suit. Firstly as if you bought one, you would feel a connection to her, knowing she wears hers with such grace. In addition, Rouje clothing is all handmade, with love, in France. This should give you piece of mind knowing the process is safe and humble. The quality and care in her clothing is wonderful and buying from her helps to support her small business, which is something I admire.
