MAX IN MILAN

Firstly, thank you Max Mara. Thank you for creating a collection full of elegance and beauty. Milan Fashion Week displayed works of outlandish creativity, and wild summer prints, but Mara took it back to basics. Every piece in his SS/18 was fit for a 1960's cocktail party, from smoking jackets to Liberty-esque prints. If you didn't know, Max Mara is a womenswear only brand, from dresses and outwear to shoes and accessories. The atmosphere of the show was natural and bare, with the models sporting slick hairstyles and red lips, each one effortlessly beautiful.

DIVERSE DENIM

When I think of denim, I think 1880's Levis. Strong, sturdy and sensible. These looks take denim from sturdy to sophisticated. Firstly, the denim jacket with statement woolen sleeves, placed on top of a flowing black dress. Two pieces that wouldn't normally compliment each other, yet in this fashion work marvelously. The almost grey/blue colour, made with a delicate denim ensure that the look keeps a cosmopolitan feel.
Max Mara took the on-trend Parisian blazer coat, and rejuvenated it. The accent of grey wool on the sleeves, exactly match the woolen suit pants, making it a very put together piece. Forget business woman vibes- this is modern chic.

THE LBD

There will never be a day when the black dress goes out of style. The term "LBD" officially stands for little black dress, but these looks are long and luxurious. My heart particularity warms towards the last piece, a silk suit dress. It gracefully sits on the shoulders, and falls to mid calf, complimenting the waist, wrists and neck. What a dress. Even at first glance, you can see the time and love that went in to making this dress. To be worn in the day for work, in the afternoon for coffee and in the evening- to any event. Accompanied by a sleek shoulder bag, giving this classic look a street style twist.

BOILERS ARE BACK

Ever wanted to wear something comfortable and impeccably stylish? Max Mara SS/18 has got you covered with these three boiler suits. Seen in that beautiful denim, a crisp white and a grey pinstripe wool. The boiler suit- originating from workmen, adapted by punks and now made to be a sophisticated wardrobe essential. I think it's safe to say we want one. It's a look that says "I don't care", whilst being incredbily fashionable.

FORWARD THINKING FLORAL

It wouldn't be a S/S collection without an ode to floral's. After all, they go hand in hand.
These two looks remind me of Liberty London, with regards to the careful selection of floral print. In contrast, the styling is very original and true to Max Mara. I adore the two piece, especially as it is accessorized by a pair of gorgeous round glasses, taking the look to the next level.
The almost transparent rain coat is a piece to admire. Tied with a belt and worn with confidence, an essential for spring.

FINALE

It was too hard to choose one favorite look, so I chose two. The first look, an eggshell smoking jacket, suit trousers and round rose coloured glasses, is what could be described as my favorite look in this world. There is something about this pairing that is loud, brave and timeless.
The show ends with a black silk suit, which is simply beautiful. Tailored to perfection and worn with such confidence.

I am sure that the atmosphere in this show was elite and chic, with possibly a Beethoven concerto playing as the models walked. What Max Mara did wasn't groundbreaking or unusual, but it was beautiful and very admirable. Shows like this are exactly how the looks are; timeless.

Thank you Max Mara, and thank you MFW.
