INCLUSIVE AND INNOVATIVE
As the summer draws to an end and darkness is upon us, there is a light at the end of the tunnel: NYFW. Each year this affair brings creativity, colour and character. Today I'll be focusing on the works of Christian Siriano. He is a breath of fresh air in the world of fashion, portraying looks and models that are considered controversial. In my eyes, they are beautiful and natural. He quotes to Glamour Magazine; "I want to celebrate beauty no matter where you come from or what size you are. We are all beautiful". This message is strongly depicted throughout his S/S18 collection, each piece bold and brave, each model true to themselves. The show is opened and closed with model and activist Coco Rocha.

He opens with an intricate navy floral design, accompanied with gold accents. This look incorporates two of S/S18's big trends: 70's and metallic/sparkle. Christian has edited this look into three ready to wear outfits, each one with sharp finishes and big shoulders.
Let's talk the models for these looks. We see a woman of colour, an activist and a transgender male. They all have one thing in common, they are owning the catwalk. This should be the only requirement to be a model in fashion week.
Shades Of Yellow
As we should all know by now, yellow is the new black. This trend is blooming throughout the fashion world right now, and it's clear we all love yellow. Siriano has used a few shades of yellow for this collection. Firstly a vintage lemon gown, with an on trend neckline and halter strap.

In addition to this he presented a silky floating dress, in a mustard yellow. This piece screams spring time and brought light to the runway. I adore the message that the colour gives off; brightness and happiness. If this collection doesn't convince you to add yellow to your wardrobe, I'm not sure what will.

The two piece, a personal favourite of mine, and now a current trend. Nothing says "I am powerful" better than a co-ordinated two piece outfit. The first image shows a deep navy top with a silver ring accent, which turns this look into edgy. Many high street stores have caught on to this "ring loop zip" trend, but Christian's piece is still dainty and classic.
In the latter photo, the model wears a statement nautical two piece. The flared arms and legs, symmetric neckline and fluid stripe takes this outfit from classic to amazing.
A conclusion
In the photo above sits my favourite piece from the collection. A unisex outfit with metallic flares, a cropped graphic hoodie and a round briefcase bag. The combination is striking and unusual.
I am in total admiration of what Christian Siriano did this NYWF. In the media he has been celebrated for his clothes, statements and models. I hope the only way is up from here, a step towards originality and diversity. After all, that's what fashion is.
His work is inclusive and innovative and I believe he deserves all the recognition for this.
The 9th of September 2017 marks an important day in fashion thanks to Christian. I could only imagine the atmosphere in that room!
Let's see what London Fashion Week brings.
